What is tungsten?

TUNGSTEN/WOLFRAM

With a melting point of 3,422°C, tungsten is known for its incredibly high temperature tolerance. It is one of the most robust materials available. Its density and hardness make it an ideal candidate for a wide range of applications, such as aerospace engineering and high-performance tools.

Tungsten is an important component in the manufacture of jewelry. Thanks to its durability and resistance to scratches, tungsten rings are perfect choices for those who seek both style and durability in their jewelry.

Our rings are made from a blend of tungsten and carbon. To bind these materials and give the ring its polished properties, we use a small amount of nickel. The material bonds extremely tightly, which is why the nickel release in our rings is below the EU limit and counts as nickel-safe.

WHERE DOES THE NAME COME FROM?

The name Tungsten comes from the Swedish mineralogist Axel Fredrik Cronstedt and refers to the material's high density. We have chosen to keep using the name "Tungsten" because we feel it suits us better. The Swedish name is actually "Volframkarbid" (tungsten carbide).

What is Tungsten?

Our rings are made of Tungsten Carbide,

– but what is it?

Tungsten is the hardest metal in the world and causes no allergies. It is so stable that it is often used in the aerospace industry.

Compared with silver and gold, tungsten neither discolors nor deforms. This makes its scratch resistance far superior to both metals.

If you own a Tungsten ring, you'll enjoy it practically forever. It is next to impossible to scratch, discolor or bend out of shape. It won't rust or darken either, as its shine will always remain.

Please note that if the ring is plated in gold or other materials, the plating will wear like any material if you don't take care of it.
